Molitor Garden by Petit Jardin en Ville
“A Rebirth to a Majestic Splendor”
In Full Bloom evokes a new cycle of seasons, the spirit of renewal, a rebirth of color and life. It is the moment when something fully blossoms. It applies to both nature and artistic creations. These three words have inspired the works of master painters, architects, and gardeners alike. At present, these words have special meaning for our time, a chance to imagine a space of color, fragrance and joy. Water, is the key element that brings life “in full bloom”.
Similarly, in our Molitor Garden, water is the connecting element. It is the crossroads between the rise of a colorful period in art and architecture, and the blossoming flowers within this garden, which bring color and life to the space.
Our garden, inspired by Piscine Molitor, is a 1,200 square foot homage to water, nature and art, and how its properties and symbolism bring literal and figurative life INTO BLOOM. Built in 1929 by Architect Lucien Pollet, this famous Parisian swimming pool played host to artistic minds in time of joy and change. Visitors will be encouraged to take notice of the pool’s symbolism and history.
The garden’s enclosure is inspired by Pollet’s iconic pool surround, depicting an ocean liner, transporting its visitors to a different time and place. The tall balconies represent the areas around the perimeter of this famous pool in Paris where guests would change for a day of lounging and sunbathing. Large statuesque plants of palm and bamboo represent the majesty and scale of the space. The vibrancy of the bougainvillea, represent the color and exuberant life graffiti artists later brought to this iconic space during the 1980’s. Near the water basins, the massive plantings of salvia and lavender mirror the blue of the pool while the cascading balcony of plants represent the movement of a waterfall. Additionally, visitors should look closely as the trellis is an homage to those who swam and dove in the Piscine Molitor.
We encourage all, as they journey through our garden to use the QR codes which will transport the visitor to this colorful place in time.
